HARRABY 2 ALNWICK TOWN 1
Alnwick were on there travels to Harraby the Cumbrian side have been in good form of late and the Monkchester ground is not one of the easiest places to come away with any kind of result. Both teams started the game at great pace and it was end to end from the onset, Harraby created the first real chance Brian Brooks making a fine save tipping the ball over the bar. Chris Moffett then drilled a 25 yard shot which the home keeper made a fine save turning the ball around the post. On 18 mins Scott McMullen delivered a free kick to the near post youngster Dale Kennedy’s glancing header across the face of goal narrowly missing the target.
Midfielder Moffett then had another terrific 25 yard effort go agonisingly wide of the goalpost with the keeper well beaten. The game was end to end and Harraby went in front on 30 mins a good move ended up with the ball being pulled back from the by line and dually placed past Brookes in the Alnwick goal. In injury time of the first half Harraby were awarded a penalty Alnwick defenders were claiming an offside decision as the ball was played to a Harraby forward who broke clear in to the Alnwick half, defender Gary Patterson made a tackle just inside the penalty area which resulted in an undisputed penalty which was well placed in the corner to give Harraby a two goal advantage. Alnwick were back in the game on 60 mins defender Danny Lowes delivering a free kick from 35 yards out which sailed over the home keepers head and in to the roof of the net. Alnwick were playing some good football as they pressed for the equaliser and were a constant threat to the back four of Harraby but were denied a share of the points with some resolute defending by the home team. Although not coming away with any points from Carlisle, Alnwick can take credit as they played their part in an entertaining game with a good team performance which probably deserved a share of the points on the day. Harraby will have a say in where the Alliance title goes this season and if they can manage there fixture pile up may go close themselves.
