ALNWICK 2 KILLINGWORTH 2
Alnwick were back to league action after last week ends cup heroics against Walker,
The home side kept favour with the previous week’s starting line up.
Killingworth were newly promoted team and have been in the top half of the premier division so far this term with some decent performances to date.
Alnwick got off to the worst possible start on six mins a cross from a wide position was headed home, slack marking by the home defenders in the penalty area giving the Killingworth forward time and space to put the ball wide of keeper Brooks.
It was Killingworth who were definitely the livelier of the two teams with the midfield having more possession with out creating any other notable chance in the half.
Alnwicks only chance fell to Ben Keenan who got on the end of a Scott McMullen through ball but the striker elected for power and missed the target when he looked favourite to score.
Alnwick could not have any complaints going into the interval break a goal behind as they were a yard off the pace of the visiting side.
Alnwick needed an early goal to get a foot hold in the game in the second half but were dealt a cruel blow on 55 mins Brooks making a fine save from 25 yards out but the ball spilled out to a Killingworth forward to steer the ball home from six yards.
The goal finally stirred Alnwick into life and it was on 60 mins Kevin Elliot played a fine through ball for Keenan to latch onto, the forward still had a lot to do but he fired a terrific shot from the corner of the penalty area back across the keeper and into the top corner of the net. Alnwick were dealt a blow on 65 mins Tom Vickers receiving a red card for an off the ball incident after being stamped on from an opposition player.
The ten men of Alnwick could have crumbled after this but they equalised on 75 mins good work from Tony Brown on the right getting to the by line and sliding the ball across the goal line for the on rushing midfielder Mark Cockburn to fire home the equaliser.
It was all Alnwick in the last 15 mins Rich Brown headed over from a Tony Brown cross, Dale Kennedy had the next chance from six yards being played in by Keenan but the Killingworth keeper saved the youngsters effort.
The away side had their keeper as their hero as he again made a great stop on 85 mins John Colly shooting from 8 yards out but the ball was turned out for a corner.
The game couldn’t end too soon for Killingworth as the ten men of Alnwick pinned them back but the slow start undoubtedly cost Alnwick the home win but Killingworth were worth a share of the spoils on their first half performance.
