Alnwick v Cramlington

ALNWICK TOWN 4 CRAMLINGTON 1

On a blustery day at St James Park Alnwick welcomed Cramlington who have been in decent form of late and have not been beaten in their last four league outings.
Alnwick got off to the perfect start on 6 mins Ben Keenan beating his marker on the edge of the box and shooting past the keeper from 12 yards out.
Alnwick delivered a second blow to the visitors on 10 mins Keenan playing through midfielder Tony Brown who ghosted past the back four and coolly placed the ball in to the corner of the net from just inside the penalty area for his fourth goal of the season.

Alnwick were well on top and were adapting to the conditions a lot better than their opponents and created a further couple of half chances before Cramlington pulled a goal back on 30 mins, a long throw from David Atkinson was flicked into the six yard box for Jordan Watson to fire home.
It wasn’t long before Alnwick regained their two goal advantage just before the half time interval, Dale Kennedy won the ball on the right beat two defenders and pulled the ball back for Mark Cockburn to cross the ball  to in form striker Tom Vickers who headed home from six yards out.
Alnwick nearly put the game to bed soon after the re start Keenan’s mazy run ended with the forward smashing a shot from 12 yards out on to the under side of the crossbar, the ball being gladly scrambled away by a Cramlington defender.
Scott McMullen then delivered a superb cross from the right for Keenan who had a free header that he powered just over the bar when he looked favourite to score.
Brookes in the Alnwick goal had little to do as the visitors attackers seemed to run out of ideas once they got around the Alnwick penalty area.
On 75 mins Tony Brown played in John Colly on the right he outpaced the defence and his chipped effort beat the keeper but was cleared off the line.
Alnwick got their deserved fourth on 90 mins a flicked on header on the edge of the box fell to Kennedy who calmly fired the ball home.
Cramlington on the day can have no complaints about the result as Alnwick ran out worthy winners and gained three valuable league points.
