Alnwick Town Juniors v Tynemouth United

Alnwick got their league campaign off to a great start. After a fairly low key first 20 minutes perseverance from Dan Thompson and Gareth McCann down the right set up Andrew Kirkup to open the scoring at the back post and after that Alnwick dominated the remainder of this game.

McCann doubled the advantage with a good long range shot on which the smallest of deflections wrong footed the visiting keeper and then soon after an absolute belter from Kirkup put Alnwick out of site. In the second half Kirkup was denied his hat-trick by an off-side decision and then seconds later by a finger tip save from the Tynemouth stopper. Alnwick continued to push forward and the visiting keeper repeated his heroics to deny Nick Bourne.  The fourth goal did come soon after and it was a collector’s item as Andrew Jack scored a superb header from a Kirkup corner.
