Murton FC v Alnwick

MURTON FC 2 ALNWICK TOWN 3

Alnwick made four changes to the starting line up from the cup final win earlier in the week for there last away game of the season against Murton.
Alnwick started the better of the two teams and good play by Tony Brown on the right forcing the Murton keeper in to a fine save from 12 yards out.
It was Alnwick who were creating most of the chances, Gary Patterson had the next one breaking clear from midfield but the Alnwick midfielder was unlucky as his shot was blocked buy the Murton defence.

On 20 mins Alnwick brought on sixteen year old forward Dale Kennedy for Richard Brown who was suffering from a virus.
Kennedy was soon in the action a headed clearance from Craig Henderson found Kennedy in the clear just over the halfway line the youngster  ran clear of the chasing  Murton defenders composed himself an slotted it wide of the keeper.
Kennedy could have had his second goal 5 minutes later putting the back four under pressure wining the ball and firing a shot which was dramatically cleared off the line.
Murton were still a threat on the break but the Alnwick defence had to be at their best in particular captain Brian Murray and Ross Young.
Alnwick were looking comfortable In the first quarter of the second period passing and retaining the ball well but were shell shocked as a misplaced pass by Neil Catlow let in the Murton forward to coolly finish, shooting wide of Brooks from18 yards out.
Murton had their best spell of play after their goal but were dealt a killer blow on 70 mins a back pass was missed by the home side keeper and was heading in to the empty net not to miss an opportunity Kennedy raced passed the defender and keeper and got his second of the game tapping the ball over the goal line.
Alnwick were finding more space as Murton pushed forward and the introduction of injury plagued Mark Cockburn on 87 mins for a cameo appearance up front proved the deciding factor as he found himself in the box with time to place the ball past the keeper from 10 yards out.
The game had one final twist to it, from the resulting kick off Murton forward ran through the defence and chipped the ball over Brooks in the Alnwick goal for the last kick of the game.
A win and three points for Alnwick on the day, with a more than exciting climax to the game.
