|
ALNWICK 0 HARRABY CC 1
Alnwick entertained high flying Harraby CC and the home side new they would have to improve their form if they were to get anything out of the visiting Cumbrian side.
A good crowd turned out for the lunchtime kick off on a bank holiday Monday.
It was Alnwick who started the brighter of the two sides the first real chance came on 10 mins Tony Brown whipping in a great corner Ben Keenan managed to side foot the ball wide from six yards.
Alnwick forwards Tom Vickers and Ben Keenan were keeping the visitors defence on their toes and the pair between them created a couple of half chances that went wide of the mark.
Harraby created little in the first half as Alnwicks back four were impressive and looked to have the measure of the Harraby attackers.
Harrabys best chances came from a couple of free kicks given on the edge of the box but both were driven wide of the mark.
Harraby had their best spell of the game in the first period of he second half and at 55 mins they broke the deadlock a good move down the right side found Bainbridge the Harraby striker fired a looping shot that went in to the top corner giving Brookes no chance in the Alnwick nets.
Alnwick had much of the play after this as they pressed for an equaliser forcing several corners, however Bainbridge nearly scored his second on the counter attack but he struck his shot placed shot wide of the post from the edge of the box.
Alnwick had their clearest chance on 80 mins, Keenan out pacing the defence hitting a shot across the keeper from 12 yards but the keeper narrowed the angle and made the save of the game to deny Alnwick.
Alnwick threw everything at the Cumbrian’s to the final whistle but were unfortunate not to come away with at least a point out of a hard fought and entertaining game.
A special mention for the referee Andy Gray who marshalled the game very well on the day.
