It was a perfect 10 for Alnwick Reserves.

The newly-formed St James' Park side extended their dream start to the season by making it 10 league wins out of 10 with a 4-0 win over Rothbury Reserves.

Town's 100 per cent record means they top the second tier of the North Northumberland league in what is their debut season. The league's new boys sit at the summit with a 10 point cushion, and a game in hand, over second place Belford.

The Reserves have been in ferocious goal-scoring form this term, with 43 league strikes to their name before the trip to Rothbury on Saturday.

And this time it was the Coquetdale club who felt the wrath of Town's attacking prowess.

Alnwick didn't take long to get into their stride and after just five minutes Stephen Hogg went close with a shot before Darren Coxford nearly put Town ahead with a free-kick.

The League's top talismen did break the deadlock though on 15 minutes from the penalty spot. Dale Kennedy tucked the ball home from 12 yards after Hogg had been felled in the area.

The table-toppers continued to bombard the Rothbury goal with Hogg, Kennedy and Mike Openshaw all going close.

At the other end, the hosts began to find some momentum but were unable to equalise before the break.

Alnwick continued to press in the second-half but it looked as though they would not add to their tally. Firstly, the home keeper pulled off a great save from substitute James Jackson before Andy McFall should have done better with a free header from a Gary Taylor corner.

Eventually the visitors' pressure paid off and Town secured their 10th league win on the bounce with three late strikes.

Taylor rifled an effort in from 25 yards while Kennedy grabbed his second from a similar distance. Davy McAnn completed the Coquetdale demolition with a header from a Coxford cross.

The league leaders will look to make it 11 victories out of 11 when they take on third-placed Lynemouth Reserves at St James' Park on Saturday.
